The Melksham Community Area has a population of 24,000.
Melksham Link Consultation
A proposed new stretch of canal linking Melksham to the existing Kennet & Avon Canal at Semington.
Consultation on the proposed Melksham Link was held throughout the summer and was intended to inform and consult with as many people as possible living in the new Melksham Community Area to determine the degree of support for the project, answer questions, consider suggestions and address issues raised.
The consultation was carried out by the Melksham Area Waterways Group, which is a theme group within the Melksham Community Area Partnership, and comprised displays, open days and presentations. throughout the Community Area.
The Melksham Link and its eventual connection via the river to the restored Wilts & Berks Canal north of the town, has has raised concerns as well as support from many areas of the community. However, this support is subject to all the technical, environmental, financial and land ownership issues being resolved; and the group recognises the importance of everyone interested having an opportunity to express their views, contribute ideas and ask questions.
